Game 1 Power@Chill
Jeremy Gonzalez pitched five scoreless innings, giving up only four hits and striking out four, as he earned his first win (1-1) of the season in a 4-0 victory over the Chill at Palm Springs Stadium.
Tim Combs pitched in relief of Gonzalez and threw two innings, giving up two hits, to preserve the shutout for the Power.
The Power offense surged in the second inning as Adrian Martinez started off the frame by getting hit by a pitch. Trevor Whyte singled to put runners at first and second, then Yuki Yasuda laid down a bunt that hugged the third baseline and hit the bag to load the bases. Koji Hida followed with a single to drive in two. Jeremy Miller brought in the third run with a sacrifice fly to left that scored Yasuda from third to make it 3-0 in favor of the Power.
The Power scored another run in the fifth as Ayumi Nakamura started the frame off with a single. Yusuke Inoguchi singled to move Nakamura to third. Trevor Willis then grounded out to the first baseman, driving in the fourth run for the Power.
The victory for the Power puts them in sole possession of first place with a 7-2 record. The Chill fell to 6-3.
Game 2 A’s@Chill
Kevin Deese singled to right to drive home the winning run in the bottom of the last inning to break a 3-3 tie and help secure a 4-3 win for the Snowbirds over the Chill at Palm Springs Stadium.
Jack Waterman set the table in the seventh with his second hit of the day. One out later, Jason Malefakis also reached on a base hit to put runners on first and third. Kevin Deese then fouled off several pitches and worked the count full before driving his single to right to bring home Waterman for the walk off victory for the Snowbirds.
Tyler Sloan pitched well, throwing five innings, allowing two runs and giving up five hits while striking out five as he earned a no decision. Entiquio Chapa earned his first win of the season.
A’s pitcher Charles Dragonetti turned in his best performance of the CWL season by pitching four innings, giving up two runs on two hits and striking out three as he received a no decision.
