Five Run 6th Proves too much for Bombers to overcome

For much of the game the Bombers led after a Time Leary three run homer but the five runs the Coyotes plated in the sixth proved too much to overcome.

Starter for the Bombers Andrew Ford was dominant in his five innings of work. Ford seemed destined to be the winning pitcher once slugging DH Tim Leary socked a three run homer to left center giving the Bombers a 3-0 lead. That was the score until the top of the sixth.

The Coyotes struggled offensively for most of the game, not collecting their first hit until the fifth inning. The sixth started with a new pitcher Jon Adams who promptly walked the first batter Matt Marquis. From there the flood gates would open. The Coyotes would send nine batters to the plate but the biggest at bat would be Michael Schroeder. Schroeder with the bases loaded sliced a 3 RBI triple down the right field line to put the Coyotes on top 4-3. One more would be added in the inning and the Coyotes pulled off the upset win by a final of 5-3.

The Coyotes have advanced to the second round and will play the number one ranked team the Oregon Lumberjacks tomorrow.

Late Inning Drama the Story as Snowbirds down Power

The first game of the playoff season was a close affair that ended in drama. The Coachella Valley Snowbirds and Palm Springs Power played a nip and tuck game where neither team held a lead larger than two runs.

The Snowbirds would score in the top of the first when Andre Oliver singled home Eddie Young. Palm Springs would come right back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Thursday’s ballgame would follow that trend all game until the 7th inning.

With the Snowbirds trailing by one, Eddie Young would draw a leadoff walk and come around to score on Brendan Miller’s sacrifice fly. The Power would put two runners in scoring position with a chance to win in the bottom of the 7th but fail to cash in. In the top of the 8th Tillman Pugh would lead off with a single and score the eventual winning run on Eddie Young’s RBI single.

Lefty Wacey Sorenson was fantastic in the game’s final three innings and got the win in the Snowbirds 5-4 playoff victory.
