Bootleggers Punch Ticket to Championship

The Bay Area Bootleggers in their inaugural season have punched their ticket to Sunday’s Championship game after a 4-2 win over the Palm Springs Chill.

At the begging it looked like it was going to be a sloppy high scoring game with the Chill scoring twice in the top of the first and the Bootleggers four times in the bottom half. However that turned out to be all of the scoring as the pitching took over on both sides.

The Chill’s starter Takaki Sato only went one third of an inning and was charged with all four runs. Than Tae Kyung Lee entered the game, stopped the bleeding and went on to set down the next 14 batters.

For the Bootleggers it took just two pitchers to throw their way to the championship. Starter Colby Gurney had issues with control early on and was let down by his defense in the first but eventually regained his form to earn the win. After the first Gurney would not allow anymore hits and walk just two runners in pitching four innings.

Travis Smith came on in the fifth and took the Bootleggers the rest of the way. Smith threw three shutout innings and earned the save for the Bootleggers. The win by the Bootleggers sets up the championship game against the Oregon Lumberjacks at noon at Palm Springs Stadium.

Jacks pitching silences Haymakers in 3-0 victory

Joseph Perrota and Kevin Rogers continued the trend of dominant Oregon Jacks pitching and the Haymakers had no answer.  Perrota threw four scoreless frames, but did not factor in the decision.  Kevin Rogers, who threw the final three innings, earned the win.

The only scoring of the game came in the 5th inning for the Jacks, which was started with back-to-back singles from Nick Schulz and Vincent Difazio.  After a balk moved them to second and third, Gordon Andy Weliver was intentionally walked and Jesse Holiday gave way to Josh Graves.  Nash Hutter drew a walk to bring in the first run and Matthew Thomas followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.  William Smalls ground ball to the right side brought in a third run and was all the Jacks would need as they advanced to the CWL Championship game where they will face the Bay Area Bootleggers at 12 noon Sunday.
