Registration is now open for the 2026 California Winter League! The California Winter League is the longest running league of its kind, helping over 900 players begin or continue their professional careers. The CWL is for free agent players with college or professional experience who are looking for exposure in front of MLB scouts, managers from the four MLB partner (independent) leagues, and international evaluators. Every year, 30-40% of CWL participants receive a professional contract offer of some kind.
The CWL takes place every year in Palm Springs, CA at the Palm Springs Stadium complex. Players are placed on rosters once they register, and at-bats and innings are guaranteed in order to achieve maximum exposure. The CWL coaching staff is made up of current MLB scouts and managers from the four MLB partner leagues who are all looking to sign players for their rosters.
The CWL is also the Official Winter League of the Frontier League. All 18 Frontier League teams will be represented at the California Winter League, with every team signing at least one CWL player to a professional contract. CWL players who sign with Frontier League teams will not be cut before spring training begins and do not count against Frontier League spring training roster limits, allowing them every opportunity to compete for a spot on an Opening Day roster. All too often, players are signed to contracts only to be cut later in the spring when affiliated minor league releases happen. This will not be the case for any CWL player who signs with a Frontier League team. Since 2015, the CWL has produced Rookie of the Year award winners, All-Stars, and Championship Series winners in the Frontier League. Several players have gone from the CWL to the Frontier League and then on to MLB organizations from there. Five former CWL players have gone on to play in the Major Leagues.
Registration for the California Winter League includes guaranteed playing time, Trackman data, a catered meal each day at the ballpark, clubhouse manager services, a gym membership for the duration of the CWL season, uniforms, equipment, locker room facilities, and more. The CWL also offers a housing option where players can stay at Hilton Vacation Club Palm Canyon in Palm Springs. Players who choose this option will live in two bedroom suites for the month. Each suite has four beds, two bathroom, a full kitchen, a living room, and a dining area. The resort features a pool, hot tub area, fitness center, and recreation areas all near downtown Palm Springs and several hiking trails in the area. Housing is extremely limited for 2026, so players who need housing are encouraged to register early and select the housing option.
