The morning kicked off with a cross-border clash as the hometown Palm Springs Power faced off against the British Columbia Bombers. The afternoon game showcased international competition with Team China taking on the Canada A’s. The day concluded with a matchup between the Alberta Grizzly and the Washington Blue Sox, capping off a full day of exciting California Winter League baseball.

POWER: 12 – BOMBERS: 9
The Palm Springs Power pulled out the win in a high scoring affair over the British Columbia Bombers on Monday morning to snap a four game losing streak. The Power struck first after Assaf Lowengart led off the game with one of his four doubles of the day and he scored on an RBI double by Kazuya Ohira. The Bombers answered right back in the bottom of the first with three runs of their own. The game continued to go back and forth from there as the Power scored three in the top of the second to take the lead right back before the Bombers tied the score at four with a run in the third. The Bombers broke the tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, including an RBI double by Bubba Thompson. The score would flip one more time as the Power plated five runs in the five to take the lead for good. The inning included a span of four straight singles by the Power. The Power added another three runs in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 12-6 before Bubba Thompson hit a sixth inning solo homerun to right field to add another run for the Bombers. Two more runs in the seventh were not enough for a Bombers comeback as the Power held on to a 12-9 victory. Kai-Hsiang Chen picked up the win for the Power, while Jordan Henke suffered the loss. Up next for the Power is a matchup against the Alberta Grizzly on Tuesday at 10am. The Bombers get a day off and then return to action on Wednesday when they host the Alberta Grizzly at 9:30am.

CHINA: 2 – A’s: 1
Team China’s eight-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Canada A’s in a low-scoring 2-1 contest on Monday morning. The first two innings were clean work from starters Ethan Smith (A’s) and Xiang Wang (China), with only three baserunners on no hits, all from Team China’s offense staying patient in counts. This was the second consecutive game Team China didn’t score in the first inning (a trend they followed in their first seven straight games),
and the first game of the season they didn’t score in the first two. All three runs of the game came in three subsequent half frames from the bottom of the third to the bottom of the fourth. The A’s scored first after a leadoff Stan King double came around to score on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Juan Frances. Donny Goodes came in to relieve Ethan Smith in the top of the fourth after three innings of no-hit baseball, securing two consecutive outs in seven pitches. China’s first baseman Yuyang Li broke the clean inning and the no-hitter with a two-out triple to the right field corner. Shortstop Mingxin Zhang, the next batter, cashed in China’s first run on an RBI single to left field to tie the game at 1-1. China reliever Haizheng Wu started the shutdown inning attempt with two straight strikeouts. With one out away from keeping the game tied into the fifth, A’s centerfielder Matthew Warren sent a go-ahead solo home run over the right field wall. After the fourth inning, only two baserunners reached for the A’s in the next two innings. A 29-pitch relief appearance from Hua Dan Cai Rang held the line, despite his offense only getting four baserunners on three hits through the next three innings. Alejandro Izquierdo came into a save opportunity, retiring the first two China batters in nine pitches. Wenbin Xing and Ning Li then got aboard with a two-out single and walk, respectively, putting the tying run at second. Liang Pei got under a pitch on a two-strike count, sending a ball into the glove of second baseman Jorge Colon and securing the save for Izquierdo. The A’s extended their win streak to six as they become the last one-loss team in the 2025 CWL season. Team China falls to 8-2, now a half game behind in the standings.

BLUE SOX: 18 – GRIZZLY: 3
The Washington Blue Sox and Alberta Grizzly met in the second game at the stadium on Monday. Both teams were looking to break their 2-6 tie and break losing streaks. The first inning saw no action as both pitchers worked 1-2-3 frames After a scoreless top of the inning, the Blue sox sent nine to the plate in the bottom of the second and scored three off of four walks, an error and a hit batter. Aoki Nakaza threw a scoreless top of the third before chaos ensued in the bottom of the inning. Atsushi Kataoka could not record an out in the third. He walked two, hit two, and gave up a hit to Allen Goodwin who reached second on an error. Yuma Ogino came in to stop the bleeding and the free passes continued for the Blue Sox. Ogino faced eight batters, recording one out before Jared Lemieux called for Kevin Consolazio to take over. Consolazio recorded the final two outs of the inning over the next four batters, but not before 13 Blue Sox scored on just three hits. Consolazio was a stabilizing force for the Grizzly, finishing the game and just allowing two more runs. The Grizzly scored three in the late innings and Niko Diaz closed out the game. The Blue Sox improve to 3-6 and will face off against the A’s on Wednesday while the Grizzly get a quick turnaround as they play the Power on Tuesday at 10:00.
