BARRY MOSS (FIELD COORDINATOR)
SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT SCOUT – LOS ANGELES DODGERS
Moss is a Pro Scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers and previously worked within their organization as an Independent League Scout from 2009-11.
After being taken by the Cincinnati Reds in the fifth round of the 1975 first-year player draft, Moss played eight years in professional ball – six with the Reds’ organization and two with the Blue Jays. He was hired by the Cincinnati Reds as a Hitting Instructor for their Florida State League affiliate for the 1985-86 seasons.
In 1987, Moss was a coach with the Salt Lake Trappers (Rookie Pioneer League) on their run to 29 consecutive wins, still a professional baseball record. He would go on to manage the Trappers for three seasons.
Moss managed the Erie Sailors of the New York-Pennsylvania League in 1991 and served in a variety of coaching positions for the Spokane Indians (High-A Padres), Stockton Ports (High-A Brewers) and Orlando Cubs (Double-A Cubs) from 1993-97. In 1998, he was hired as Player Procurement Director for the independent St. Paul Saints, a position he held with the Saints, Brockton Rox and Ft. Worth Cats over the next 13 years.
He served as the Miami Marlins Minor League Hitting Coordinator in 2012.
During the off seasons of 2000-2005, Barry was the Hitting Coach for the U.S.A. Professional Tournament Teams that played for the World Cup and Pan American Games Qualifying Tournaments.
His well-rounded experience at the major league level makes him the perfect candidate to serve as the CWL’s Field Coordinator.
RICK SCHROEDER (MLB SCOUT)
PROFESSIONAL SCOUT – TEXAS RANGERS
Schroeder has scouted for the Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers dating back to 1982. During his tenure as a professional scout, Schroeder has scouted and signed the following major and minor league players: Danny Duffy, Derek Holland, Gary Alexander, Steve Buechele, Bob Gamez, Danny Herrera, Randy Kramer, John Lujan, and Alex Rivers. In three seasons with the CWL, he has signed three players directly out of the CWL and offered many more spring training invites.
CAM ROTH (PITCHING COORDINATOR)
MANAGER – LAKE ERIE CRUSHERS (FRONTIER LEAGUE)
Cam Roth returns to the CWL for his 7th season. In 2022, Roth returns to Lake Erie to manage the Crushers in the Frontier League after managing there in 2017 through 2019. In 2021, he was the manager of the Gateway Grizzlies. Roth was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles and pitched professionally for three seasons. Roth has signed over 2 dozen CWL players since 2016.
STAN CLIBURN
MANAGER – SOUTHERN MARYLAND BLUE CRABS (ATLANTIC LEAGUE)
Stan Cliburn returns to the CWL for his 9th season in 2022. Following his career with the California Angels, Cliburn went on to manage 30 years professionally. Stan just finished his 33rd season in minor league baseball and 2nd overall season with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. He won his 1700th game and managed his 3,500th professional game on the final day of the 2019 season. He is notorious for leading his teams to the promised land, having made it to seven championships while winning four titles. The Mississippi native returned to Southern Maryland after coaching the 2015 Blue Crabs squad to one of two championship series in franchise history, and winning ALPB Coach of the Year honors with the New Britain Bees in 2016. In 2021, 4 2021 CWL Players played for Stan in Southern Maryland.
TOM VAETH
MANAGER – WASHINGTON WILD THINGS (FRONTIER LEAGUE)
Tom Vaeth returns to the California Winter League for his 4th season. Vaeth made his debut as a full-time professional manager in 2021 with the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League. Previously, Vaeth had been the hitting coach for the Winnipeg Goldeyes in the American Association, a post he held for 17 seasons. In 2021, Vaeth managed the Wild Things to an appearance in the Frontier League Championship.
CASEY DILL
SCOUT – GARY SOUTHSHORE RAILCATS (AMERICAN ASSOCIATION)
Casey Dill returns to the CWL for his 8th season as a manager. Dill has managed over 500 games at the collegiate and professional levels. He has been an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves, the scouting director for the Southern Illinois Miners, and is currently a scout for the Gary Southshore Railcats in the American Association. Dill has also coached at the collegiate level, including stops at Chico State University, New Mexico Highlands University and Harris-Stowe State University. Dill is the Director of the POWER Summer Collegiate League, operated by the same organization as the CWL, and manages the Palm Springs POWER summer collegiate team during the summer months at Palm Springs Stadium. JIMMY “JJ” JOHNSON
MANAGER – GRAND JUNCTION ROCKIES (PIONEER LEAGUE)
JJ Johnson makes his CWL debut in 2022 after managing the Grand Junction Rockies in 2021, their first season as an independent team in the Pioneer League. Previously, Johnson was the Hitting Coordinator for the Colorado Rockies from 2002-2012. He was also the hitting coach for China in the World Baseball Classic. In 2022, Johnson will hand the reins of the Rockies to Pitching Coach and 2005 World Series Champion Bobby Jenks as JJ takes on a heavier role in player procurement for Grand Junction. Jenks was also in attendance for two days during the 2022 CWL season to evaluate players.
PAUL NOCE
MANAGER – EASTSIDE DIAMOND HOPPERS (UNITED SHORES LEAGUE)
Paul Noce has been in the game of baseball for over 34 years including two player stints in Major League Baseball with the Chicago Cubs (1987) and Cincinnati Reds (1990). Noce is the manager for the Eastside Diamond Hoppers in the USPBL. In 2021, he led the Diamond Hoppers to a USPBL Championship appearance. Noce has led the Diamond Hoppers in all three seasons of existence. His teams are typically among the best in all offensive categories and he led the Hoppers to their first-ever USPBL Championship Game in 2018. Noce has mentored seven players that have signed with MLB organizations since 2016.Noce has signed over 20 CWL players over the years, many of whom have gone on to be USPBL All-Stars and reach the MLB-affiliated ranks.

JAMES FRISBIE (CWL PITCHING COORDINATOR)
MANAGER – LINCOLN SALT DOGS (AMERICAN ASSOCIATION)
Frisbie began the 2017 season as the Blue Crabs pitching coach. He took over the helm in early August and led the team to the first-half Freedom Division championship.
Besides the last two months of the 2017 ALPB season, Frisbie’s previous skipper duties were managing the Texas Air Hogs of the American Association in 2016. In 2013, Frisbie was named the team manager for the Rockford Aviators and was the manager of the 2015 Frontier League All-Star game. As a player, the left-handed pitcher was signed by the Alexandria Aces in the Texas-California League in 1998. Frisbie was on staff with the Rio Grande Valley White Wings, the Jackson Senators of Central Baseball League and with the Chillicothe Paints in the Frontier League.
Frisbie enters the 2019 season as Pitching Coach for the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League and his first year as CWL Pitching Coordinator.
BOBBY BROWN (HITTING COORDINATOR)
DIRECTOR OF PLAYER PERSONNEL – GATEWAY GRIZZLIES (AMERICAN ASSOCIATION)
Brown has 20+ years of professional baseball experience as a player, coach, scout and manager. 2019 will be his seventh season with the CWL.
Brown initially played with the Springfield Capitals of the Frontier League in 1996 before hooking on with the Kansas City Royals the following year, following a similar path to majors many CWL players take. He returned to the Frontier League in 1998 and posted career highs in batting average (.363), home runs (9) and RBI (63) with the Canton Crocodiles.
Brown served as manager for Amarillo Thunderheads from 2013-2015, sending five players to the majors during his time with the club, including David Peralta of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
After his time in Amarillo, Brown became the hitting coach for the Lincoln Saltdogs in the American Association in 2015. He was quickly promoted to manager in just his second season with the club in 2016.
Brown’s expertise in the art of hitting is why the CWL brought him on to serve as the league’s Hitting Coordinator in 2017. Bobby will return to a manager role in 2019.
