WASHINGTON BLUE SOX 12 – 5 CANADA A’S

The Washington Blue Sox went back and forth early against the Canada A’s before blowing the

game open late to win 12-5 and become the 2025 California Winter League Champions.

Both offenses scored early as they took advantage of sloppy defense in the first two innings. The

Blue Sox scored two runs on an error in the top of the first before the A’s answered with a three

run bottom of the first. The Blue Sox then tied it up 3-3 on an Allen Goodwin bases loaded walk

in the top of the second. None of the first six runs in the game were earned as the teams

combined for four errors in the first two innings.

The A’s took the lead back in the third inning on an RBI double by Matthew Warren, his second

of three RBI on the day. The lead did not last long, however, as the Blue Sox scored a pair on a

two-run homer by Parker Depasquale in the top of the fourth inning to give the Sox a 5-4 lead.

The A’s tied things at 5-5 with a run on another RBI double by Warren.

The game remained tied at five until the top of the seventh inning when Shuya Funada led off the

inning with a walk on a full count and later came around to score on a two-out, RBI single by

Niko Diaz on another full count to give the Blue Sox a 6-5 lead. They never looked back from

there as a five run eighth inning broke the game open. The Sox added another run in the ninth to

take a seven run lead and cruised to victory.

On the mound, Noah Cole tossed five strong innings for the Blue Sox, allowing five runs (two

earned) on seven hits with seven strikeouts in a no-decision. Michael Slayton picked up the win

after two scoreless innings, while Tyler Foug suffered the loss for the A’s.The win gives Blue Sox manager Jimmy Johnson his first California Winter League title in his

third consecutive trip to the championship game. The fifth seeded Washington Blue Sox pulled

off their improbable championship run by defeating the fourth seeded Palm Springs Power in the

quarterfinals, the top seeded Team China in the semifinals and the second seed in the Canada A’s

in the finals to become the 2025 California Winter League champions.
