After the second season of the California Winter League wrapped up, four players are fighting for roster spots on MLB teams.

Two players, Beau Brett (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Jonathan Johnston (Oakland Athletics) were affiliated with big league teams when they came to the CWL.  Brett is entering his second professional season after playing with the Arizona Dodgers (Rookie Level) last year.  This will be Johnston’s second professional season after playing for the Kane County Cougars in 2008.  Johnston is waiting to see what minor league team he will be assigned to for Opening Day and did have one at bat with the Oakland A’s this spring.

Keith Castillo signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Rays after hitting .358 this past CWL season.  Castillo is currently playing with the Rays in Port Charlotte, FL and will find out this week what team he will be assigned to for Opening Day.

Sean Watson earned a spring training invite with the St. Louis Cardinals after his time in the CWL.  After compiling a 3.15 ERA and a win in CWL play, Watson is with the Cardinals battling for a minor league roster spot.
