The Oregon Lumberjacks and Palm Springs Power started the CWL quarterfinals with the first auxiliary field game on Friday. A late inning comeback propelled Kyle Gaedelle’s Jacks to a 8-7 win to move on to the semifinals. Aaron Miles’ Power started hot jumping all over the Jacks with a six run first inning. A seventh run in the second had Palm Springs up 7-1 in the third inning.

The Jack’s offense got rolling in the middle innings. Oregon scored three in the fourth and four in the fifth on an error and some unconventional plays to take the lead 8-7. Mason Carrier was in the middle of both innings with two RBI on a single and double. The Jacks used four pitchers to cover the game with Christian Zellner taking the bulk and recording the win after five innings allowing three runs. Jayge Campbell started for the Power and received the loss. The Lumberjacks move on to the semifinal game on Saturday and will face the Washington Blue Sox at 10am at Palm Springs Stadium.

The Alberta Grizzly and British Columbia Bombers played in the second aux field quarterfinal game on Friday and BC walked it off in the 11th winning 3-2. The game was a pitching duel between Kyle Moore for the Grizzly and Cade Flaherty for the Bombers.The game was scoreless until Nicholas Chavez hit a ground ball that resulted in an error which forced CJ Cepicky. The Bombers tied the game two innings later in the bottom of the fifth from a Drew Donaldson sacrifice fly. Jack Halloran hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead for the Bombers. Alberta tied it with two outs in the seventh on a Micah Barkenhagen RBI single that scored Timothy Johnson. The Bombers called upon William Merriott out of the bullpen who pitched the final 4.1 innings of the game. Kenny Stewart took over after eight innings from Moore and held the Bombers scoreless until the bottom of the 11th inning. Jeffrey Resseigh reached on a walk and two batters later, Jacob Schlesselman hit a walk-off RBI single to win and move on to the semifinals where the Bombers will face the Manitoba North Stars at 12:30 pm at Palm Springs Stadium on Saturday.

The Washington Blue Sox defeated the Palm Springs Chill 7-4 in Friday’s quarterfinal at Palm Springs Stadium. Washington struck first on Logan Reese’s two-RBI double. Bubba Thompson’s solo homer extended the lead to 3-0, and Ethan Roberts added three more runs in the third inning with a line-drive homer to left field. The Chill did not go quietly, chipping away at the deficit.

Jake King drove in two runs on two hits, and Mattie Thomas added a solo homer to right field.

The two home runs by the Blue Sox proved to be the difference. Ben Des Rosiers was sharp on the mound for Washington, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out 10. Josh Nielsen recorded the final six outs to secure the victory. The Blue Sox advance to Saturday’s American Division semifinal against the Oregon Lumberjacks. First pitch is set for 10 a.m. at Palm Springs Stadium.

Despite a No. 1 seed, the Manitoba North Stars needed every bit of their effort to take down a pesky Canada A’s team at the stadium on Friday. After a two-run comeback, the North Stars beat the A’s 7-5 to advance to the semifinal round of the postseason. Down 5-3 in the fifth inning, North Stars third baseman Derek Gellos tripled home Tyson Dent. Following up in the sixth inning, the North Stars scored three runs and took the lead for good. Outfielder Khyle Radcliffe brought in two on a single, and Dent’s sacrifice fly scored catcher Garret Arnold after A’s starter Ethan Alexander was removed for Dominick Castillo. Alexander tossed five innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits. Castillo pitched a scoreless inning. North Stars starter David Clarke was tagged for five runs across five innings. The Chicago alum was burned for three runs in the first inning, with Kevon Jackson, Jordan Singleton, Ryne Guida and Remy Heckman all getting hits in the first. The North Stars countered an early 2-0 deficit thanks to a bases clearing triple from shortstop Kevin Gameros, but their late inning rally put them in the semifinal. With its win, Manitoba will face British Columbia at the stadium on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
