The Washington Blue Sox defeated the Manitoba North Stars 8-3 Wednesday morning on the auxiliary field. Both teams entered the final day of the regular season locked into the top seed in their respective divisions. The Blue Sox opened the scoring in the second inning on AJ Karosas’ sacrifice fly and Fran Gross’ RBI triple to take a 2-0 lead. In the third, North Stars center fielder Derek Gellos launched a 3-2 pitch over the wall in right-center field to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Washington added two runs in the fifth and four in the seventh, capped by Logan Reese’s two-run double. Starting pitcher Caleb Reyes was in command. The solo homer to Gellos accounted for the only run he allowed. His final line: five innings, three hits, one earned run and nine strikeouts. Manitoba stranded runners at third base on three separate occasions.The Blue Sox collected five extra-base hits, including RBI doubles from Reese, Ethan Crawford and Derek Blackmore. Washington finished the regular season 13-3 and secured the top seed in the American Division. The Blue Sox host the Palm Springs Chill at 10 a.m. Friday at Palm Springs Stadium. The North Stars also finished 13-3 and earned the top seed in the Canadian Division.

They host the Canada A’s at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Palm Springs Stadium.

The Canada A’s defeated the Palm Springs Power 6-5 in sudden death Wednesday afternoon in Game 2 on the auxiliary field. The Power grabbed a 2-0 lead early on Grayson Moller’s two-run homer. Eduardo Solano sparked a four-run second inning for the A’s with a leadoff solo homer. Back-to-back RBI doubles from Stan King and Jordan Singleton put Canada in front. Palm Springs tied the game at 4-4 on consecutive sacrifice flies from Mike Koszewski and Tommy Barth. Each team added a run in the sixth inning, and the game was tied 5-5 after regulation. As the home team, the A’s elected to bat in sudden death, which began with a runner on first base. Following a single and a walk, Remy Heckman pinch-hit with the bases loaded and was hit by a pitch on the second offering he saw, giving Canada the walk-off victory. The A’s finished the regular season 6-10 as the No. 4 seed and will play the Manitoba North Stars at 12:30 p.m. during quarterfinal Friday.The Power fell to 6-10 and secured the No. 3 seed. They take on the Oregon Lumberjacks at 9 a.m. Friday in the first quarterfinal of the day.

The Oregon Lumberjacks have had their turn to score on opponents, but it was the Alberta Grizzly who turned up the bats in their Wednesday matchup at Palm Springs Stadium. The Grizzly beat the Lumberjacks 11-1 on Wednesday. In a dazzling performance, Grizzly starter Tyler Corkhill went 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits. Corkhill finished with five strikeouts, and relievers Micah Barkenhagen, Evan Tondera and Richie Amavizca combined to allow just one run the rest of the game. At the plate, Grizzly left fielder CJ Cepicky jumped on Lumberjacks starter Nathan LeBeau. Cepicky hit a home run, a double and singled twice to drive home three runs. The Lumberjack’s sole run was brought around by a Preston Walston single in the sixth inning. LeBeau took the loss for the Jacks while Corkill earned the win for the Grizzly. When the playoffs begin Friday, the Lumberjacks will play the Power at 9:00 a.m. on the turf field. After that game, the Grizzly will play the Bombers at 11:30 a.m. on the same field.

The British Columbia Bombers and Palm Springs Chill matched up in the final CWL regular season game at Palm Springs Stadium. Wednesday’s 16-9 win for the Bombers ended their season at 8-8 and sent the Chill to 5-11. Luke Payne started the game for the Chill and only pitched one inning and allowed one run. Gary Templeton II sent five pitchers out to cover a wild game against the Bombers which had three lead changes and was tied going into the late innings. Tino Novis threw the first three innings for BC. Before the offense picked him up in the fourth. Five runs from the Bombers who sent ten to the plate tied the game at seven. The Chill struck for two in the fifth and with a 9-7 lead, Palm Springs had to face Will Merriott to end the game.

Merriott ended the fifth and was immediately met with run support in the sixth. Six runs for the Bombers over the final two frames capped off an impressive 16-9 comeback win. Merriott took the win and the loss went to Evan Leibl. The Bombers will face the Alberta Grizzly on the auxiliary field on Friday at 11:30am in the first round of the CWL playoffs. The Chill will take on the Washington Blue Sox at 10am at Palm Springs Stadium.
