Bay Area Bootleggers defeat Coachella Valley Snowbirds 5-4

The Bay Area Bootleggers were in a tight one throughout against the Coachella Valley Snowbirds.  The Bootleggers got things in the first inning when Alan Chetham singled home Connor O’gorman.  The Snow Birds would tie things up in the top of the second with an RBI walk for Ryan Breen.

In the bottom of the seventh inning Scott Underwood would reach on a walk and advance to second.  Scott’s brother Erik Underwood would end the game with a walk off ground rule double.

The Final Score would be 5-4 as Brian Del Rosso would get the win.

Pitching Rules the Day as Lumberjacks down Coyotes

Continuing the theme of the 2014 CWL playoffs, the Oregon Lumberjacks and Palm Desert Coyotes played a tight game that went down to the wire. Michael Schroeder and Kagen Hopkins engaged in an epic pitcher’s duel that was a tense affair right from the beginning.

Hopkins went 5 innings striking out 6 and giving up only one unearned run. Lefty Michael Schroeder was equally impressive.  Schroeder pitched a full 6 innings while mowing down 6 Jacks. The lone blemishes on Schroeder’s ledger came in the bottom of the fourth. With Nick Schulz on second, the Coyotes decided to intentionally walk Vincent DiFazio to get to Gordon Andy Weliver. The leftfielder would make Palm Desert pay by stroking a 2 RBI double to left center.

Max Duval came on in the top of the sixth and made mincemeat of the Coyotes’ lineup in his two innings of work. Duval slammed the door shut on the Lumberjacks 2-1 victory, sending them to the semi-finals of the CWL playoffs.

Haymakers eliminate A’s on Hur grand slam

It was the day of the long-ball as the Midwest Haymakers and Canada A’s squared off in their playoff matchup.  Brian Bistagne of the Haymakers and Kyle Clifton of the A’s each hit a solo shot early in the contest.  Starting pitchers Griffin Jones and Nick Woodward were otherwise effective and the game would ultimately be decided by the bullpens.

With the A’s clinging to a 3-2 in the top of the 7th, the bases were loaded for Michael Hur.  Hur responded by blasting a grand slam over the left-field fence to put the Haymakers on top 6-3.  Matt Parrish threw a scoreless bottom half to send the Haymakers on to the next round of the playoffs.

Chill survive late BlueSox rally, win 5-4

The BlueSox scored first when Paul Rambaud tripled and was brought home on a Jarel Lewis sacrifice fly.  The Chill answered back in the 3rd when Evan Boyd doubled to start the inning and was brought home on Seth Sprivak’s RBI groundout to the right side.

With the Chill leading 4-2 in the 5th, the BlueSox came roaring back.  DJ Andrade drove in Jarel Lewis to pull the BlueSox within one.  Andrade then stole second and a pair of errors on the play allowed him to score and tie the game.

The game would be decided in the bottom of the 6th.  Masahiro Miyadera walked to begin the inning and was sacrificed to second.  Seth Spivak delivered the game-winning hit to score Miyadera and put the Chill on top 5-4.  David Teasley threw a scoreless 7th and the Chill advanced to the next round of the playoffs.
