Washington Blue Sox 2 – Alberta Grizzly 1

In a pitcher’s duel of the first 2015 CWL playoff game, it was the Blue Sox who came out on top. Washington got off to the early lead in the first when Reggie Lawson hit a double down the left field line to bring in the first run. With two outs, Victor Barron dropped one in down the line as well, bringing Lawson in to score. The Grizzly would answer with a run of their own off the bat of TJ Singh, scoring Mike McGuckin in the fourth inning. That was the only run the Grizzly could get off the Sox start Justin Martinez. The right-handed pitcher went five innings, giving way to Chris Rogers who went the last two. The Grizzly finish the season at 6-8-2 on the year as they are knocked out of the playoffs. The Washington Blue Sox improve to 5-8-2. With the win, Washington will have a showdown with the number one seeded Canada A’s tomorrow, 12:30 PM at Palm Springs Stadium.

Coachella Valley Snowbirds 4 – Palm Springs Chill 3

Game two of the play-in games feature the Snowbirds and the Chill. Coachella Valley went up 2-0 after the first inning, but the Chill had three runs in the second to take the lead after Darryl Stanfield and his Chill teammates combined for a couple RBIs. The Snowbirds would come back to tie it in the fifth after a ball was lost in the sun, giving Chris Cruz a triple to bring in a run. In the bottom of the sixth, Nick Cuckovich had a clutch hit to them gap, advancing to third on a misplay in the outfield. Keita Hirose hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the Snowbird shortstop and the Snowbirds held on to win 4-3.
