Palm Springs, Calif. – Former Colorado Rockies’ prospect, Wesley Jones has signed with the Gateway Grizzles of the Frontier League. Jones spent the 2019 off – season at the California Winter League.

Immediately following the California Winter League, Jones signed with the Eastside Diamond Hoppers of the United Shore Professional Baseball League. The 6’3’’, 200 pound, third baseman, from Lithonia, Georgia, posted a .220 batting average in 38 games played. Jones notched 33 hits, including four doubles, and had 14 runs batted in. He crossed the plate 20 times.

In the field, Jones posted a .937 fielding percentage with 32 putouts in 72 attempts.

Prior to joining the CWL, Wesley Jones was drafted to the Colorado Rockies in the 31st round (919th overall) in 2013. He played two seasons of rookie ball playing for the Grand Junction Rockies of the Pioneer League and two seasons of short season baseball for the Boise Hawks of the Northwest League. In the minors, Jones posted a .250 batting average, notching 149 hits, with 29 doubles, one triple, two homeruns, and 55 runs batted in. He crossed the plate 55 times.

Jones was released from the Rockies during the 2018 season following an injury. In preparation for the 2019 season, Jones found himself in Palm Springs playing at the California Winter League.

Wesley Jones joins the Gateway Grizzles of the Frontier League, the oldest operating independent league in the country. The Grizzles are 15 games out of first place for the West Division, with the Florence Freedom toping out the standings. The Grizzles have promoted more than 30 players to affiliated ball clubs since their inception in 2001.
