Palm Springs, Calif. – The British Columbia Bombers and Washington Blue Sox both pitched shutouts to improve winning records Friday at the California Winter League.

David Pentecost tossed a complete game shutout and the Washington Blue Sox won their eighth straight game with a 6-0 win over the Alberta Grizzly. The Oregon Lumberjacks opened the day at the stadium by walking off the Palm Springs Power 6-5 followed by the British Columbia Bombers winning their fifth game out of the last seven with a 3-0 shutout of the Canada A’s. MLB China finished the day on the backfield defeating the Palm Springs Chill 8-6.

Alberta Grizzly @ Washington Blue Sox

The Blue Sox (8-2) rolled to another victory with a 6-0 shutout of the Alberta Grizzly (6-6). David Pentecost worked a complete game shutout with two strikeouts needing just 78 pitches. The Blue Sox offense plated two runs in the second inning and four in the third on six hits.

Palm Springs Power @ Oregon Lumberjacks

The Power and Lumberjacks battled back and forth all game with five lead changes. Chase Vinson led the way offensively for the Power with three hits. Daniel Walsh hit a go-ahead RBI single to put Palm Springs in front in the seventh. Oregon responded in the bottom of the frame working two walks before a sacrifice fly on a consequential flyout led to two errors and the walkoff 6-5 Lumberjacks victory.

British Columbia Bombers @ Canada A’s

Four Bombers pitchers combined for a shutout of the A’s in a 3-0 victory. Starter Ayura Kobayashi (pictured) twirled four shutout innings and earned the win. Avery Manygoats and Noah Ruble pitched scoreless innings before the Bombers’ Shane Gustafson earned the save with an in-order seventh inning. The Bombers plated an unearned run in the second and another two tallies in the fifth led by an Evan Lorey RBI. Kelsie Whitmore tossed three innings in her start for the A’s with four strikeouts. Her lone run allowed was unearned. Whitmore maintains a spotless ERA through three starts and eleven innings.

MLB DC China @ Palm Springs Chill

MLB DC China won their second consecutive game with a 8-6 win over the Chill. On the mound MLB China used four pitchers all combining for just 4 strikeouts by pitching to contact throughout the day. Penjwei Jing led the MLB China offense with two hits and two runs scored. MLB China scored four runs in the second inning for a lead they never relinquished.

The California Winter League continues on Saturday as the Oregon Lumberjacks battle MLB DC China at 10 AM followed by the Palm Springs Chill renewing their rivalry with the Palm Springs Power at 12:30 PM.
