Palm Springs, Calif. – The California Winter League returned to action at Palm Springs Stadium on Sunday with a doubleheader. The Washington Blue Sox squared off against the Alberta Grizzly in the morning, followed by a clash between the British Columbia Bombers and Team China.
GRIZZLY: 10 – BLUE SOX: 4
The Alberta Grizzly won their first game of the 2025 CWL season over the undefeated Washington Blue Sox, 10-4. Grizzly starter Daniel Clark set the pace with four solid innings of work, only allowing one across in the fourth. Meanwhile, Clark’s run support was abundant, with Alberta putting up three in the first.Grizzly broke the door open in the fourth, batting around with six runs plated on five hits to give them a nine-run advantage after four. Grizzly centerfielder Scott Shaw scored half of those runs that inning thanks to a bases-clearing three-RBI triple. The Blue Sox had their best opportunity in the fifth, where the first four batters of the inning got on base consecutively. Delvis Lorenzo Muniz allowed two of those four baserunners to plate, but otherwise escaped the frame before things fell out of hand. Blue Sox starter Garrett Deyoung takes the loss in his season debut, despite seven strikeouts in his four innings of work. The Blue Sox loss marks the final undefeated team to fall in the 2025 season.
TEAM CHINA: 10 – BOMBERS: 2
Team China used a nine run fourth inning to catapult themselves to a 10-2 win over the British Columbia Bombers on Sunday afternoon. The game started off as a pitching duel as both teams cruised until the bottom of the fourth inning, allowing just one run each. China scored their first run on an RBI single by Chen Jiaji to score Liang Pei in the first inning. The Bombers evened the score in the top of the fourth inning as they took advantage of a pair of errors by China.
The wheels fell off for the Bombers in the bottom of the fourth inning as China sent fourteen batters to the plate enroute to a nine run inning. That included a sequence of three consecutive RBI hits by Li Yu Yang, Luo Jinjun and Wang Shuai. Chaz Graham suffered the loss for the Bombers after he could not replicate his 1-2-3 third inning and was chased from the game in the fourth, while Zhao Wei picked up the win for Team China.The Bombers (0-3) are back in action tomorrow as they take on the Canada A’s (2-1) at 12:30pm. Meanwhile, Team China (3-1) will enjoy a day off tomorrow and return to action on Tuesday when they host the Grizzly (1-2) at 10am.
