Palm Springs, Calif. – The California Winter League saw three exciting matchups unfold on Gameday 5, providing fans with a thrilling day of baseball at Palm Springs Stadium.

CHILL: 13 – GRIZZLY: 3
The Palm Springs Chill defeated the Alberta Grizzly 13-3 on the Auxiliary Field on Monday morning. The Chill set the tone in the top of the first with an Ethan Martini two-run home run, his second of the season, attributing to a three-run tally in that frame. A two-RBI single from Caleb Ware extended the Chill’s lead to five after two.Chill starter Ryan Schroeder started the game strong, retiring the first six in a row, but broke the shutout in the third with an unearned run scoring on a sacrifice fly from Grizzly centerfielder Luke Chernesky. Grizzly pitcher Bryce Miller came in to relieve starter Kevin Consolazio, where he started the inning with four straight walks (five total in the inning), walking in two extra runs for the Chill. The Grizzly pieced together four straight hits in the bottom of the fourth to add two more to their comeback effort, but those would be their final runs of the day. The Chill added insult to injury in the sixth when Grizzly shortstop Justin Ayala came in to pitch, facing all nine batters and allowing the Chill to put up a five-run inning and extend their lead to nine. The final Chill run came across in the top of the seventh on an error by Pete Baker to give the Chill a double-digit lead, which they held onto with reliever Fu-Yuan Chang closing the book on the Grizzly for the Chill’s second win of the 2025 season.

POWER: 2 – BLUE SOX: 1
The Palm Springs Power pulled out a tight 2-1 victory over the Washington Blue Sox on Monday morning. Blue Sox starter Clayton Warner and Power starter Tino Novis took turns rolling through the opposing lineups in a game that saw nine total hits and thirteen total strikeouts. The Power struck first after Tristan Pacheco reached on an error in the third and then scored one batter later on an RBI triple by Assaf Lowengart. The Blue Sox tied things up in the fourth as they took advantage of a pair of errors by the Power. The Power took the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning after a two-out double by Kazuya Ohira was followed by an RBI single from Jacob Maiben that just fell fair down the right field line. Tino Novis earned the win for the Power after going 5.2 innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Clayton Warner took the hard luck loss after tossing all seven innings, allowing two runs (one
earned) on six hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Kyle Bell picked up the save after working a scoreless seventh inning. Both teams are back in action tomorrow as the Blue Sox host the A’s at 9:30 am and the Power host the Chill at 12:30 pm.

A’S: 3 – 1 BOMBERS
Another great pitching performance from both teams saw the Canada A’s edge the British Columbia Bombers 3-1 in the day’s second game at Palm Springs Stadium. A’s pitchers Ethan Smith and Anthony Sillas combined for four innings of scoreless ball. Nick Escalera walked three and gave up two hits in the first inning, giving the A’s an early 3-0 advantage. Those would be the only runs Escalera and the rest of the Bombers staff would give up, as Nick threw three more scoreless innings before Jordan Henke and Sebastian Encarnacion would each toss one inning scoreless of their own. Donny Goodes walked Nolan Machibroda to lead off the sixth, and two wild pitches by Donny Goodes put the Bombers on the board 3-1. Sillas picked up the win and Nick Escalera’s three-run first would give him the loss. The A’s rise to 3-1 on the season, tying the Palm Springs Power and Team China for first in the league through four games. The Bombers fall to 0-4 and are still the last team in the league looking for their first win. They will be the only team with an off-day tomorrow as their next matchup will be Wednesday against Team China. The A’s will play tomorrow against the Blue Sox at 9:30 a.m. on the Aux field.
