Palm Springs, Calif. – The Washington Blue Sox rolled past the Palm Springs Chill 24-3 Tuesday morning on the auxiliary field. It was an offensive onslaught for the Blue Sox as they scored 13 runs through the first two innings. Third baseman Nico Guerra went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and a hit by pitch, adding two sacrifice flies while driving in four runs and scoring four times. Left fielder Derek Blackmore reached base in all six plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a double, three walks and a hit by pitch, while driving in a run and scoring three times. AJ Karosas and Joseph Esparza each homered, providing some extra power for David Peterson’s lineup. Starting pitcher Fu-Yan Jhang allowed three hits and struck out three over five innings. The Chill avoided the shutout by scoring three runs, capped by Tzu-Han Lin’s solo homer to lead off the bottom of the seventh. The Blue Sox improved to 4-1 and have Wednesday off before taking on the British Columbia Bombers on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at Palm Springs Stadium. The Chill dropped to 1-4 and will face the Alberta Grizzly on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at Palm Springs Stadium.
The first game at the stadium featured maybe one of the best showcases of power and pitching all in one. The Power faced off against the Grizzly with Jayge Campbell for Palm Springs and Kyle Moore for Alberta in what was a pitcher’s duel in all regards. Both pitchers completed the game pitching every inning in a 3-2 win for the Grizzly, a much needed victory over a stout Power roster. Although Jayge Campbell was the losing pitcher, he finished with a final line of: 7 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, and 6 K. Kyle Moore finished with a final line of: 7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, and 5 K. The feature of the day was a massive second inning that featured a homerun by Tommy Barth on a launch of 391 ft and Micah Barkenhagen rocketing a homerun 410 ft that bounced off the scoreboard in left-centerfield. Aaron Mile’s Power will fall to 3-2 on the season and will look to bounce back tomorrow against the British Columbia Bombers at the AUX field starting at 9:30a.m. Jared Lemieux’s Alberta Grizzly will continue to ride on a high after a great performance against the Palm Springs Chill in the second stadium game tomorrow, which is slated to start at 12:30p.m.
The British Columbia Bombers took on the undefeated Manitoba Northstars Tuesday at Palm Springs Stadium and John McLaren’s Northstars continued their perfect run, beating BC 12-1. Tino Novis started for the Bombers and was immediately attacked by Manitoba. Four Bombers errors in the first two innings gave the Northstars a 9-0 lead. David Clarke was the starting pitcher for Manitoba and started out hot. Five strikeouts in the first three innings set the tone for the righty. He finished the day with four scoreless innings, seven strikeouts, and took home the win. The Northstars lineup was littered with standout performances. Cam Suto was a triple short of the cycle, Skye Selinsky had four hits, among many other impressive lines. The Northstars get a day off before facing the Grizzly at 10a.m. and the Bombers get back to work against the Power on the auxiliary field at 9:30a.m.
Wednesday at Palm Springs Stadium is locals’ day with general admission tickets only costing $5 for all Coachella Valley Residents.
