The 3-2 Palm Springs Power hosted the 1-4 British Columbia Bombers on Wednesday at the auxiliary field and the Power won 3-1. Aaron Miles sent out Austin Turley to pitch after a complete game by Jayge Campbell in their loss the day prior. Turley got immediate support in the first when Jason Leon drove in Mike Koszewski on an RBI single. The score remained 1-0 until the sixth when the Bombers starter Kevin Consolazio ran into a jam. The Power tacked on two more runs on three straight hits, capping it off with a Sevon Battle RBI double. Johnny Vazquez closed out the final three innings for the Power and recorded the save. Austin Turley received the win. The Power have an off day before facing the Blue Sox on Friday at 10a.m. at Palm Springs Stadium. The Bombers are back at it on Thursday in the 12:30 game at the stadium as well.
First game of the day the ballpark featured the 1-3 Canada A’s and the 2-2 Oregon Lumberjacks. The fireworks started quickly with both sides driving 2 runs each in the first inning, but it would be the last of the runs scored for the Oregon Lumberjacks with Ethan Alexander locking down much of the first four innings before Chet Robsinson and Takushi Minakawa would lock down the save winning 5-3 over the Jacks. Garrett Deyoung who was the starting pitcher for the Jacks would give up 5 runs before Ryan Wheeler would hold things down and give his team a chance to attempt a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Minakawa would have his way with two Ks (one which was a dropped third) and a pair of flyouts to end the game. The Canada A’s jump back on the winning column to move to 2-3 as they take on the Jacks in a rematch at the AUX field tomorrow starting at 9:30 am. The Jacks fall to 2-3 on the season with a chance for revenge.
The Palm Springs Chill defeated the Alberta Grizzly 13-9 on Wednesday afternoon in an entertaining affair at Palm Springs Stadium. The Chill jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with the help of a two-run single from Mattie Thomas.
In the following frame, the Grizzly answered with six runs to take a 6-3 lead, highlighted by C.J. Cepicky’s grand slam to left-center field. The punch-and-counterpunch nature of the game continued into the fourth inning, when the Chill stormed back behind Evan Leibl’s grand slam to right-center, giving Palm Springs an 8-6 advantage and capping an eight-run inning.
Leading 12-6, the Chill remained in control through the latter half of the game despite a late push from the Grizzly. Alberta plated three runs to make things interesting, but the comeback fell short. Cepicky finished 2-for-2 with a grand slam, four RBIs, two walks, two stolen bases and two runs scored. The Chill improved to 2-4 and will face the Lumberjacks at 9:30 a.m. Friday on the auxiliary field following a day off. The Grizzly dropped to 2-4 and will take on the Manitoba North Stars at 10 a.m. Thursday at Palm Springs Stadium.
Thursday at Palm Springs Stadium is Out of Towners Day where general admission is only $5 for all Non-local US residents.
