The Washington Blue Sox hosted the Alberta Grizzly on Saturday at the auxiliary field and delivered a well pitched 2-0 ballgame to set the tone for the day. Jared Lemieux’s Grizzly took home their first shutout win of the season, improving to 3-5 on the season on the back of a pitching staff led by Orlando Balderas and Kenny Stewart who combined for five innings of shutout baseball with Stewart taking credit for the win. Fu Yuan Jhamg started on the mound for the Blue Sox and was solid in his own effort allowing just one run over five innings, but took the loss in a day where Lemieux’s pitching staff silenced a potent Washington lineup. The Grizzly improved to 3-5 ahead of their matchup with the Power at Sunday’s 12:30 p.m. stadium game while the Blue Sox fall to 6-2 as they approach an off day before a matchup with the Lumberjacks at 9:30 a.m. at the aux field on Monday.
British Columbia (1-6) battled the Palm Springs Chill (2-5) in the first game at the stadium on Pride Day. Both teams trying to not fall under the last place moniker in a much needed win for each team. The Bombers started off strong with an RBI double from Jack Holloran against Luke Payne on the mound for the Chill. The Chill would manage to respond with an RBI double from Mattie Thomas in the bottom of the 2nd inning, but would serve to be the only run scored by the Chill all game. Former Occidental, CSU Pomona, and Wheel of Fortune Star Caleb Reyes would make his Bomber debut and go for 4 innings with 7 Ks. The Bombers would go up 5-1 in the fifth inning with a handful of runs batted in by Shane Skelly and Tanner Darley. The Chill would have an opportunity to try to make a late game comeback with the bases loaded, no outs in the bottom of the seventh. William Merriot would fan the threat, forcing back to back groundouts and a strikeout to seal the victory for the Bombers and grab the save. The Bombers move to get their second win of the season and prep to take on the Lumberjacks tomorrow at the AUX field at 9:30am while the Chill attempt to break a cold snap against the A’s in the first game at the stadium at 10am tomorrow morning
