Monday kicked off with the Oregon Lumberjacks and the Washington Blue Sox in their first ever match up of the season for the CWL. The Sox started Shiang-Yun Chao on the mound and he did not have to wait too long for run support after giving up an RBI walk to Garrett Bevacqua. The Blue Sox would roll with multiple runs throughout the game, including a homerun from Logan Reese in the third inning. The Blue Sox would come away with the win over the Lumberjacks
13-2. The Lumberjacks play the Canada A’s on the main field tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. and the Blue Sox take on the Manitoba Northstars at 12:30 p.m. to try and knock down the undefeated kings of CWL up to this point.
The Manitoba North Stars remained unbeaten after taking down the British Columbia Bombers 6-3 Monday afternoon at Palm Springs Stadium. Jack Halloran’s solo homer gave the Bombers an early lead in the bottom of the second. Tied 1-1 through three innings, North Stars third
baseman Derek Gellos sent a ball over the wall in right center for a two-run shot and put his team ahead 3-1. Felix-Antoine Chenier Rondeau added another two-run homer to the tally as the North Stars led 6-1 through five innings. A late rally from the Bombers fell short after they drove in a couple of runs in the seventh. Starting pitcher Jordan Riley put in a strong performance as he reached the seventh frame and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and struck out seven. Brady Chavez entered the game with the bases loaded and recorded the final two outs. The North Stars are now 9-0 and play the Washington Blue Sox (7-2) at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Palm Springs Stadium. The Bombers drop to 3-7 and are off Tuesday. They’ll take on the Palm Springs Chill (3-6) at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Springs Stadium.
The Alberta Grizzly and Canada A’s faced off in the second game at Palm Springs Stadium on Monday. Paul Noce’s A’s came into the day 2-6 and turned to Takushi Minikawa who struck out eleven but took the loss, allowing four earned runs. Jared Lemieux handed the ball to Tyler Corkhill who grinded through four and a third innings with just two earned runs allowed. The game was hard fought until the late innings with a 4-3 score entering the bottom of the sixth.
Stan King took over after Minikawa couldn’t record an out in the sixth. The Grizzly piled on with five runs in the frame to take a 9-3 lead. CJ Cepicky came in from the bullpen and closed out the game in the seventh to secure Alberta’s fourth win of the season. The 4-6 Grizzly have aday off before facing the North Stars at 10a.m. on Wednesday at Palm Springs Stadium. The A’s take on the Lumberjacks at 3p.m. in a feature game at the stadium.
