Palm Springs, Calif. – An action-packed Tuesday at the California Winter League (CWL) was headlined by two comeback victories and a complete game. At the auxiliary field, the Washington Blue Sox dominated the Palm Springs Chill 12-3 with a complete game by pitcher Trevor McGee. At Palm Springs Stadium, the Alberta Grizzly’s outlasted MLB China 4-3 in the morning game. The Palm Springs Power finished the day with a walk-off 2-1 victory over the British Columbia Bombers.
Washington Blue Sox @ Palm Springs Chill
Trevor McGee tossed a 117 pitch complete game to lead the Blue Sox (2-2) to a 12-3 victory over the Chill (2-2). The Blue Sox scored three runs in the first inning keyed by a pair of doubles by Michael Buchino and Nick Gonzalez. McGee struck out seven with just one walk over his seven stellar innings.
Alberta Grizzly @ MLB DC China
The Grizzly (3-2) and MLB China (2-3) battled back and forth throughout the morning. Gavin Stupienski started the scoring with a solo blast in the second inning for the Grizzly. MLB China responded with three runs in the bottom of the third inning courtesy of base knocks from Xin He, Enwei Wan and Gezhi Duojie. The Grizzly retook the lead in the sixth scoring the tying run off of a Stupienski double. Kevin Consolazio then knocked in the go-ahead single for the Grizzly’s 4-3 win.
British Columbia Bombers @ Palm Springs Power
A classic pitchers duel started the afternoon battle between the Bombers (1-3) and Power (3-2) with no runs through the first six innings of play. Power starter Trey Valka pitched four shutout innings with eight strikeouts. The Bombers’ Trey Jones tossed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. British Columbia plated the first run of the ballgame off of a throwing error in the top of the seventh for a 1-0 Bombers lead. Power leadoff batter Branden Erb reached on a drop-third strike to leadoff the bottom of the seventh. A base hit and walk loaded the bases. Jake Paulson then played hero, ripping a walk-off single into center field for a 2-1 Palm Springs victory.
The CWL continues on Locals’ Wednesday with five dollar admission for Coachella Valley residents at Palm Springs Stadium. The Canada A’s take on the Oregon Lumberjacks at 10 AM followed by the Alberta Grizzly and the Palm Springs Chill squaring off at 12:30 PM.
