Palm Springs, Calif. – The California Winter League held its second day of thrilling action at Palm Springs Stadium Friday.
BLUE SOX 11-4 BOMBERS
The Blue Sox moved to 2-0 on the season after an 11-4 victory over the Bombers. It was all Blue Sox from the start, scoring six runs in the first inning with four walks from Bombers starter Takushi Minegawa. He would settle down with a scoreless inning alongside two scoreless from Ryuya Kato. Angel Landazuri held the Bombers offense scoreless through four innings and picked up the win. Both teams would trade two-run half innings in the fifth, making it an 8-2 game. The Blue Sox would score three more in the sixth, two coming from an Angus Stayte pinch-hit single. A late comeback attempt in the seventh by the Bombers was to no avail. Both pitching staffs combined for 16 walks and four HBPs. The Blue Sox look to continue their undefeated season on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. against the Alberta Grizzly. The Bombers seek their first win on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. against Team China.
CHILL 21-5 POWER
The Chill and Power played in the first and only game on the auxiliary field on Friday. The Chill took home a convincing 21-5 win over the Power riding an offense led by Ethan Martini who hit a three-run home run and walked three times. Johansel Gomez was credited with the win after a three inning effort allowing just one run.
A’S: 7 – GRIZZLY: 1
The Canada A’s took a commanding 7-1 victory over the Alberta Grizzly in the final game of day two of the 2025 CWL season. Grizzly starter Bryce Miller gave up five straight baserunners in the second inning, leading to a four-run A’s rally to give them a lead they never gave up. The Grizzly’s only offense came in the fourth inning when a leadoff error by A’s shortstop Jorge Colon gave Grizzly designated hitter Corey Gregory the opportunity to score on a wild pitch.
A’s reliever Ethan Smith bookended the final two frames, facing the minimum with two strikeouts to secure his team their second consecutive win to start the 2025 CWL campaign. The Alberta Grizzly fall to 0-2, who will look to pick themselves up in their next matchup on Sunday.
