Palm Springs, Calif. – The California Winter League was back at Palm Springs Stadium Saturday with two exciting matchups. Todays 10:00 AM matchup saw Team China face the Palm Springs Chill, and the 12:30 PM stadium matchup featured the Canada A’s battling the Palm Springs Power.

CHINA 10-3 CHILL
The Palm Springs Chill and team China met up in the morning game for the first rematch of the early winter league season. After walking off in the first game, China looked to make it two in a row against the Chill who came off the biggest win of the season when they beat the Power 21-5 on Friday. This time around it was all China from start to finish. China’s pitchers from start to finish were outstanding, combining for just two walks, six strikeouts and just two of the three runs being earned. The Chill had to play catch up right out the gates. Their starter Jeff Rotz struggled, allowing seven runs over an inning and two thirds. The Chill had baserunners throughout the game, but the early seven runs were too much to overcome and China took home the 10-3 win.

POWER 8-6 A’S
A pitching duel turned into a lot of offense as the Power get their second win of the season against the Canada A’s. Ryan Baum had seven strikeouts through five scoreless innings, dicing through the A’s offense only giving up four hits. On the other side, Chet Robinson had some scoreless innings of his own and it was 0-0 heading into the fourth. Paul Turelli was wild, walking four and hitting one, giving up four runs as Austin Turley got out of the jam, now down four. Another few scoreless half-innings and the wild pitching continued with David Reckers. Four walks of his own and four runs given up tied the game at four. The Power would answer back in a big way with four runs in the bottom half, with more walks and two errors by Jorge Colon and Tyler Foug giving the Power their four-run lead back. The A’s would plate two in the seventh after good base running by Foug and Matthew Warren, but they would fall short. The 8-6 loss was their first loss of the season, leaving the Washington Blue Sox as the only undefeated team left in the CWL. The Power play next on Monday at Palm Springs Stadium against the Blue Sox at 10:00 a.m. The A’s look to bounce back on Monday in the afternoon game at 12:30 p.m. against the British Columbia Bombers.
