Palm Springs, Calif. – The California Winter League hosted a tripleheader at Palm Springs Stadium today. The Washington Blue Sox faced off against Team China on the auxiliary field, while the Palm Springs Chill squared off against the Alberta Grizzly and the Palm Springs Power battled the Canada A’s on the main stadium field.

CHINA 3 – 0 BLUE SOX
Team China rode strong outings from four different pitchers on Friday morning enroute to a 3-0 win over the Washington Blue Sox as they became the first team in the league to reach six wins. China pitching held the Blue Sox to just three hits as the combination of Wei Zhao, Guangxuan Sun, Jie Zhou and Alan Carter tossed the first shutout of the 2025 California Winter League season. At the plate, Tianyuan Hu singled to lead off the bottom of the first inning for Team China and came around to score the game’s first run on an RBI single by Jiaji Chen. China would add runs on a third inning RBI single by Xuodong Zhu and an RBI single by Nan Du in the sixth. Guangxuan Sun picked up the win for Team China as he struck out a pair in his two scoreless innings without allowing a hit. On the other side, Tino Novis took the loss after pitching five strong innings for the Blue Sox, allowing two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Alan Carter picked up the save after striking out all three men he faced in the top of the seventh. Team China will take a six game winning streak into a matchup against the Palm Springs Power on Saturday at 12:30pm. The Washington Blue Sox will enjoy a day off and then will look to snap their five game losing streak and exact some revenge on Team China on Sunday as the two teams face off at Palm Springs Stadium at 12:30pm.

CHILL 11 – 2 GRIZZLY
The Palm Springs Chill are back over .500 at 4-3 after a blowout victory 11-2 against the Alberta Grizzly. Daniel Clark was on the mound for the Grizzly, while Ryan Schroeder toed the rubber for the Chill. The first three innings were fairly uneventful with only one run scoring as Chill center fielder Dominic Bucko hit an RBI double in the top of the second. Walks would haunt in the fourth, as Daniel Clark gave up three singles, two walks and two hit by pitches as the Chill put up a six spot in the frame, taking a commanding 7-0 lead. The Grizzly would attempt a comeback, three hits and a walk scoring two to cut the deficit to five. Ryan Schroeder would finish with five innings, giving up two earned runs and five hits, striking out three. The Grizzly would bring Yuma Ogino in, ending the sixth run inning and throwing a scoreless fifth. He would give up another two to the Chill after a two-RBI single from Ethan Martini. Now up seven, Johansel Gomez would enter for the Chill, throwing another scoreless frame. Bryce Miller would give up two more to the Chill in the top of the seventh, Tristen Ciarlo hitting a two-run double that scored Ethan Roberts and Nick Chuisano. Jarrett Burney would close it out for the Chill, giving them the 11-2 win. The Grizzly fall to 2-5 while the Chill move up to 4-3. The Chill will play tomorrow against the Bombers at 10:00 a.m, while the Grizzly face off against the A’s tomorrow at 9:30 at the Auxiliary field.

A’S 5 – 4 POWER
The A’s (5-1) and Power (3-3) faced off in Friday’s second stadium game. The A’s took an early lead scoring two in the first off a San Ruta double and Kazuya Ohira error at shortstop. The Power immediately with four unearned runs off a pair of A’s errors. Both teams exchanged zeroes until the A’s broke through in the fourth tying it on a two rbi double by Matthew Ward, playing Dane Simon and Matthew Warren. Anthony Silas took over for Ethan Smith on the mound and did not allow a run. The A’s took the lead off Zach Novis in the sixth off a sac fly by Jorge Colon and Silas closed out the game taking home the win 5-4. The A’s keep pace with China at 6-1 and the Power fall behind the Chill at 3-4. Next up both teams play on Saturday, with the A’s taking on the Grizzly and the power facing team China.
