Trio of CWL Players Off to Hot Starts for Diamond Hoppers
Gillaspie, Mangus, and Ruedisili Carry Strong CWL Performances with them to USPBL
PALM SPRINGS, CALIF – Three 2018 California Winter League players are making early contributions to the Eastside Diamond Hoppers in the United Shore Professional Baseball League.
Right handed pitcher Logan Gillaspie is off to a hot start as a member of the Diamond Hoppers’ staff compiling a microscopic 0.90 ERA through 10 innings of work across 5 appearances. Over those 10 innings, Gillaspie has allowed just 8 hits and has 9 strikeouts. Gillaspie compiled a 2.52 ERA with 33 strikouts through 25 innings during his time at the CWL as a member of the Canada A’s. The righty out of Oxnard College will look to build on his early success in the USPBL.
Infielder Chris Mangus leads the USPBL in homeruns with 3 so far this season. Mangus is hitting .294 for the season while reaching base at a .429 clip. All of his homeruns came across his first 3 professional at-bats during the first week of the season, during which Mangus hit .600 to earn USPBL Player of the Week honors. As a member of the Alberta Grizzly in the 2018 CWL, Mangus his .412 with two doubles and a triple, striking out just four times during the month.
Outfielder Kody Ruedisili is off to a hot start hitting .320 with a double and a homerun over his first 6 games for the Diamond Hoppers. During his time at the CWL as a member of the Alberta Grizzly, Ruedisili hit .295 with three doubles and triple.
Eastside manager Paul Noce, who managed the Grizzly in the CWL this past season, has his club off to a 4-2 record. He will continue to rely on contributions from Gillaspie, Mangus, and Ruedisili as well as other 2018 CWL players C Tommy LaCongo, 1B Cameron Coons, and OF Gabe Gunter. The USPBL plays all of its games at the new Jimmy John’s Field in Utica, MI. The league has elevated over 20 players to MLB-affiliated baseball.
Registration is NOW OPEN for the 2019 California Winter League. The CWL will run from January 21st-February 18th. The CWL is now the Exclusive Winter League of the Frontier League. Heading in to its 10th season, the CWL has seen over 650 former players receive professional contracts after playing in the CWL.
